Five-Day Sexual Health Training Kicks Off for Gulu Teachers

40 teachers from different schools in Gulu district are currently attending a five days training about Sexual and Reproductive Health.

The training is being conducted at Gulu District Council Hall with officials from Gulu District Health Department and experts on Sexual and Reproductive Health.

William Onyai, the Gulu district Health Educator says the teachers are being trained on different topics Iike, prevention against gender based violence, alcohol and substance abuse, and introduction to mental health among others.

Onyai urges the teachers to impart into others the sexual and reproductive health skills in order to reduce teenage pregnancies and gender based violence.

Gulu District in Northern Uganda continues to report alarmingly high cases of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV), with recent data indicating a surge in incidents.

Between November 2023 and May 2024, Gulu registered 1,917 cases of domestic violence.

As of June 2025, reports from local authorities indicated 80 cases of GBV were being reported monthly, translating to roughly 20 cases weekly.
