Gifter Aber, the Laroo-Pece Division Mayor has pledged to support residents affected by the railway line in Cubu A and Cubu B cells, and Tegwana Ward in seeking fair compensation.
Aber made the commitment during a community meeting held yesterday with residents affected by the railway project.
She says many genuinely affected residents were left off the previously compiled compensation list which contained only a few names.
The Mayor says she will work with the affected communities to ensure a new compensation list captures all eligible residents.
Aber thanks residents of Cubu A and B for attending the meeting in large numbers and openly sharing their concerns.
She says their participation is important in ensuring transparency and fairness in the compensation process.
In April this year, parliament heard that 7,767 (PAPs) representing 41 percent under government funded projects remain unpaid, with outstanding compensation of 533.2 billion shillings.
6,597 project affected persons (PAPs) under donor-funded projects, worth 320 billion shillings were also yet to be compensated.
The affected projects include Bukasa Port, the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), Tororo-Gulu Metre Gauge Railway, and the Gulu Logistics Hub.
