Gulu City Council authorities have condemned an attack on its law enforcement officers by some traders during a routine trade order enforcement operation over a week ago.
The team of law enforcement officers was attacked opposite Buganda Pub on the 26th of last month.
Innocent Ahimbisibwe, the Gulu City Town Clerk warns that violence against law enforcement officers undermines the rule of law and threatens public safety.
Ahimbisibwe accordingly urges vendors and business operators to remain law- abiding and cooperate with enforcement teams as they execute their lawful duties.
The town clerk explains that the ongoing enforcement exercise is intended to restore order within the city and ensure that public spaces remain safe, accessible and conducive for business.
He urges all traders operating on streets, road reserves and other ungazetted trading areas to voluntarily relocate to gazetted markets and other designated trading spaces.
