
Gulu City Mayor, Julius Labeja Gunya has called for dialogue and sensitization before the resumption of Trade order.
The Mayor notes in his speech that there is need for the traders to be sensitized and told the reason why the trade order is being carried out.
The Mayor says that the past implementation of the Trade Order was done according to the directives from the local government Ministry without taking into consideration challenges being faced by the traders.
Adding that they will sit down with Security, technocrats and business leaders and make sure that they find the best alternative of implementing the trade order.
Labeja adds that the Traders who are operating on the road side and all those that are affected by the Trade order needs to be located a place where they can operate from before they are evicted from their current set up.
The Mayor further adds that City Authority has embarked on several initiatives to address the rampant problems affecting the City residents like Insecurity, de-silting the drainage Channels, among other key issues in the City
Trade Order” is a nationwide government policy designed to restore structure, hygiene, and organization to urban areas by clearing streets and pavements of illegal vendors and relocating them to gazetted, formal markets.
Despite temporary paused due to public outcry over heavy-handed enforcement, the Cabinet maintains that the policy is non-negotiable.
