Gulu Main Market Leadership Elections Delayed Again Over Missing Audit Report

The election of new leaders at Gulu main market has been delayed further due to lack of an audit report.

Peter Banya, the Gulu Resident City Commissioner in charge of Laroo-Pece Division who is overseeing the election process at the main market says they are yet to secure funds for paying an audit firm.

Banya explains that the market’s two bank accounts, in Pearl and Equity banks have been inactive adding that efforts are underway to reactivate them such that the audit firm can start work.

He says an audit report for the past years is vital in knowing the financial standing of the market before fresh elections can be carried out.

Recently, tension brewed between vendors and the market leadership over lack of accountability for the association’s assets and funds which include two trucks and 20 million shillings donated by president Yoweri Museveni a few years ago.

Gulu main market which was commissioned in 2016 by President Yoweri Museveni, currently has over 4,000 vendors.
