The Inspectorate of Government has recovered 3.8 million shillings allegedly extorted from a job seeker by a technical officer attached to Zombo District Local Government during a 2025 recruitment exercise.
Speaking during a sensitisation meeting in Zombo and Paidha Town Council, Regional IGG Officer Nickolas Kajura said the officer allegedly promised to influence the District Service Commission by adding marks to the applicant.
He says the money was recovered and disciplinary action initiated. The IGG Manager for Advocacy and Capacity Building, Christine Lamwaka, urges public officials to remain accountable and serve with integrity.
Meanwhile, Zombo RDC Festus Ayikobua raised concern over alleged extortion in district recruitment processes, calling for stronger action against corrupt officials.
However, the Zombo District Service Commission Chairman, John Pascal Wapokra, defended the commission members that they “do not ask for bribes.”
