The theft of culverts from Iriaga ward in Gulu City has raised concern during the full council meeting for Laroo-Pece division.
The questions were triggered when Kinyera Stephen, the councilor IV representing the people of Iriaga ward informed council that two months ago, culverts that were placed on Ocan Obita road alongside with sand in his ward which have all disappeared.
Otema Wilson, the councilor IV representing the people of Laliya ward in Gulu City condemns the act adding that if those who took the materials knew that it was not meant for Ocan Obita road, they wouldn’t have taken the materials there.
He says removing the materials and taking them elsewhere cause heartbreak because people are suffering with poor roads everywhere.
Aber Gifter, the Mayor of Laroo-Pece division says they are just two months in office and and as such no culvert has yet been installed on any road during her tenure.
She adds that the culvert in question could have been for the former office bearers whose terms have expired.
Aber notes that both Gulu City and division maintain roads and therefore the culvert in question could have been for the City adding that the City authorities might have placed the culverts and removed them which is okay because they have that authority.
Aber advises that with immediate effect, when any road material is being put on any road, the LC1 of the area and councilors must be made aware to ensure easy follow up in case it disappears.
