
A mother and her baby were this morning killed in a tragic road accident along Lira-Kamdini road in Oyam district.
24-year-old Miriam Adero and her baby Miriam Angwen were riding a bicycle at 7:30am today when they were knocked near the Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) checkpoint by a semi-trailer Registration No. KDJ001D/ZD9275 M driven by one Mwendwa Komu, a resident of Nairobi in Kenya.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Police spokesperson said in a statement that the bodies of Adero and Angwen were retrieved from under the trailer and taken to St John’s hospital Aber for a postmortem.
Okema says that the driver of the semi-trailer was also rushed to St John hospital Aber in critical condition.
Okema explains that preliminary reports show that the trailer which was from Lira side towards Kamdini, rammed into a truck carrying cement and lost control before crossing to the opposite side of the road where it knocked the pedal cyclist and entered a trench.
Other occupants of the trailer who include 40 year old Rose Nasimiyu, 54 year old Nicholas Ogape, 21 year old Betty Nasimi, 29 year old Felista Nelly,3 year old Nandera Aisha, 1 and half year old Christine Nekesa nakeisustained injuries.
