Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces has confirmed that Miria Matembe, the former Minister of Ethics and Integrity is in security custody, days after her family reported that she had gone missing following a raid on her Luzira residence.
Her lawyers and close associates say Matembe is being held at the Mbuya military detention facility, although authorities have not issued a detailed public statement on the circumstances of her arrest.
Matembe’s husband, Nehemiah Matembe, says security operatives raided their Luzira home on Wednesday last week, searched the premises and left without identifying themselves or explaining the purpose of the operation.
Since the raid, Matembe’s family says they have been unable to reach her, with her phones switched off, prompting concerns over her whereabouts. Her husband says he reported the matter to police but received no assistance.
