Police in North Kyoga region are investigating a case in which a murder suspect was lynched by an angry mob in Oyam district.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson says preliminary investigations show that the beheaded body of the first victim, Walter Okello was discovered in a maize garden at Ajaga Trading Centre yesterday.
Okema says findings indicate that Okello, a resident of Otada B Village, Minakulu Sub-county had been involved in a fight on Sunday with suspects identified as Geoffrey Onegi, Ronald Ogwang, and another individual also identified as Walter Okello.
The deceased was never seen again after the altercation until his body was discovered yesterday.
Okema says police picked up the body and took it to Anyeke Health Centre IV mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
He adds that police arrested four suspects identified as Geoffrey Onegi, OgwangRonald, Walter Okello, and Christine Apio, to assist with investigations.
One of the suspects, Onegi however, escaped while being escorted to Minakulu Police Station before he was pursued by members of the public who lynched him.
Onegi’s body has also conveyed to Anyeke Health Centre IV Mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
Okema condemned the act of mob action saying it undermines the rule of law and denies suspects the right to a fair trial.
