Northern Uganda MPs Seek Clarity on Cattle Restocking, LRA Insurgency Compensation

Members of Parliament; Gilbert Olanya for Kilak South in Amuru District and Patrick Okello Onguti for Aswa County in Gulu district have asked government to clearly come out with the date when it will embark on the cattle restocking program and compensation for losses incurred during the LRA insurgency.

The cattle restocking program which is targeting Acholi, Lango and Teso sub regions was halted about two weeks ago by President Yoweri Museveni who said the process would start immediately after the elections.

Each household will be restocked with five cattle under the program.

Olanya who was speaking during a press conference at the Northern Uganda Media Club (NUMEC) says the issue of cattle restocking and compensation has dragged on for far too long.

He challenges Museveni to prove his good will towards the people of Acholi considering the fact that they voted overwhelmingly for him.

Onguti, the Aswa County MP says government should streamline how the cattle will be distributed.

Onguti says people did not only lose cattle but other property as well as lives, something the government should consider while carrying out compensation.
