
The Police in Kaberamaido District have launched investigations into a fatal road traffic accident that claimed the life of a Soroti SS teacher, along the Soroti–Lira Highway.
According to Ibrahim Saiga, the Regional Police Commander (RPC) for East Kyoga, the accident occurred yesterday, at 11:20 am in Aoya B Village, Abalang Parish, Oriamo Sub-county.
The crash involved a Toyota Wish, registration number UBD 512A, driven by Paul Dembi, a resident of Mbale District.
The vehicle was reportedly traveling from Soroti towards Lira when it struck a pedal cyclist identified as Joseph Angia, a teacher at Soroti Secondary School and a resident of Oriamo Sub-county in Kaberamaido District.
Angia sustained severe injuries and died instantly at the scene.
Police conveyed the deceased’s body to Kaberamaido Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem examination.
The driver was immediately arrested and is currently in police custody to assist with ongoing investigations.
Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are ongoing.
