The pupils of Unyama Sub County in Gulu district have been given power to report the parents who are keeping pupils at home to the LC1 chairpersons of their different areas.
Kidega Justine, the LC3 chairman of Unyama Sub County says that they have realized as a sub county that there are very many children still left to stay at home instead of being taken to school.
Kidega says, they sat in a meeting and resolved that parents keeping children at home be arrested.
Kidega says that they have empowered any child who is left to stay home while their colleagues are at school to go to the LC1 chairperson and report the parent, the LC1 will then forward the matter to the sub county where the sub county police will now arrest the parent.
According to Kidega, after arrest the parent will be expected to defend his/herself giving clear reasons why the child is at home yet it is school time.
Kidega says some items will be forcefully sold from the parent to pay for the school fees of the child and such a parent will be warned seriously to take education of their children seriously.
