Rotary club to construct heart center at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital

The Rotary club of Gulu in partnership with Rotary club of Kampala are in the process of constructing a heart center at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital under their Little hearts project.

A heart center is a specialized medical facility or department focused on the comprehensive diagnosis, treatment, and management of heart and vascular diseases, often featuring dedicated cardiologists and advanced technology.

Olum Tonnac Obita, the president Rotary club of Gulu City says they conducted a needs assessment at Gulu Regional Referral Hospital and realized the need for a heart center.

Olum says the project is already at its inception stage and they expect to complete it within in two to three years.

He adds that construction will take long because a lot of processes are involved including the buying of sophisticated machines, and training personnel among others.

Walter Uryek- Wun, the principal hospital director for Gulu Regional Referral Hospital says the initiative will act as a supplement to the government projects aimed at fighting heart disease in the country.

In August 2025, Rotary International District 9213, Governor Geoffrey Kitakule unveiled Little Hearts Project, a flagship health initiative aimed at the early detection and prevention of heart disease in children across Uganda.
