The Acholi paramount chief, David Onen Acana II, has yesterday implored the Acholi people to support Ambassador Dr. Olara Otunu his bid to contest for the UN Secretary General Chair.
He said this during the Traditional cleansing ceremony of Lt. General Charles Otema Awany that took place at Acholi cultural Institution in Gulu city.
The cleansing ceremony is part of the home welcoming event of the General who retired from the army after serving for 47 years.
Olara Otunnu was officially nominated by Ugandans for the position of United Nations Secretary-General on 24th July 2026.
While making his speech at the event, Acana said Acholi is very proud of Otunu and wishes him the best of lack in the race.
He adds that Acholi must remain united and see that Olara go through the race for this important chair.
Acana says Otunu has already proved that he is capable and also encourages Otunu to be calm whether he makes it to the chair or not arguing that everything happens for the good.
