Secretary education pushes for school closure over defilement case

Oryema Bosco, the secretary education for Gulu district is pushing for the closure of Denis schools, a private school located in Paicho Sub County, Gulu district over a defilement case which has led to the arrest of Denis Ayella, the Director of the school.

Oryema says this is the third time such is happening in the same school which raises concern over protection of pupils in the school.

He says he cannot keep quiet on such a dangerous issue because he will be doing a disservice to the population of Gulu district.

According to Oryema such a school should be closed with immediate effect for the safety of our children.

Harriet Atim Okot, the District Education Officer for Gulu says the defilement is still an allegation that has not yet been proven and the matter has been committed to court meaning it cannot be discussed in public.

Atim says it is the responsibility of schools to ensure the safety of learners at all times but if they fail it means they are not doing their part.

Atim urges parents to stop concealing bad acts that happen to their children but rather report such immediately whenever it occurs.
