
A seven-year-old girl has died after she was knocked by a passenger bus along the Gulu–Kampala Highway in Omoro District.
The fatal crash happened at around 10:00am yesterday morning near Aremu Godown in Aremu Sub-county.
Police identifies the deceased minor as resident of Idobo B Village in Aremu Sub-county.
According to preliminary police findings, an Isuzu bus, registration number UA 920EA, belonging to Gulu Coaches and driven by 32-year-old Jerry Ronald, was travelling from Gulu towards Kampala when the child reportedly ran across the road from the right to the left and was struck by the vehicle.
David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West Police Spokesperson confirms to Favour FM that the victim sustained critical injuries and died while being rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.
He further notes that the bus initially left the scene but was intercepted by traffic officers at the Kamdini checkpoint and later taken to Bobi Police Station, where it is being held pending further investigations.
Mudong discloses that the driver’s medical examination has been conducted, while the body of the deceased has been taken to Lacor Hospital Mortuary for a post-mortem examination.
Police have visited the scene and investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing.
