Suspected Goat Thief Killed by Angry Mob in Apac District

Police in Apac district are investigating the alleged mob killing of a man accused of stealing goats.

The deceased identified only as Ogwang is believed to be a resident of Akuli village, Apac Sub-County in Apac District was reportedly killed by angry mob at unknown time yesterday.

He was killed at Ayeng trading Center in Apoi Sub-County, Apac District and the matter reported to police by Walter Adoko the area L.C I chairperson.

According to a statement by Patrick Jimmy Okema, Ogwang’s lifeless body was discovered abandoned on the roadside with a goat tied to his leg.

Okema says that reports show that Ogwang and others were on several occasions rescued by Police of Apoi Sub county and Apac Central Police Station over similar allegations of theft of animals.

He adds that records show that he is among a group of gangs who are always in and out of prison on charges of theft of animals.

Okema says police went to the scene and picked up the body and conveyed it to Apac main Hospital mortuary pending a postmortem.

He says that no suspect had yet been arrested and that efforts were underway to identify the owner of the goat and suspects.
