Uganda National Bureau of Standards (UNBS) has urged consumers to be keen on weights of goods they buy from the market.
This follows numerous complaints that some traders sell goods less than the weight indicated on the items.
Affected items are prepackaged sugar, posho, cement and cooking oil among others.
Sylvia Kirabo, the head of marketing and public relations at UNBS says consumers are usually cheated at fuel stations because many prefer to buy fuel in terms of money instead of in liters.
Kirabo says that some fuel attendants mess up with the pump and end up selling air to consumers.
She was on Friday speaking to journalists during a webinar on the role of weights and measurements in realizing consumer justice and protection organized by consent Uganda, a consumer justice non-profit organization.
Kirabo explains that some traders cheat consumers by prepackaging items like sugar and posho claiming it is to save time while cheating consumers.
She calls on consumers across the country to always demand for goods to be weighed before paying.
