uspects Arrested Over Missing Cattle Restocking Funds in Oyam

Three people have been arrested for alleged theft of cattle restocking program funds in Oyam district.

Two of the suspects have been identified as 58 year old Quinto Odongo and his daughter, Lydia Auma, a mobile money agent operating in Kamdini Town Council.

They are residents of Dog Fitina Village, Myene Sub-county in Oyam District.

Odongo allegedly manipulated Rose Adongo, a cattle restocking beneficiary into having her Wendi account linked to a phone number controlled by Odongo instead of her own phone number

Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Region Police Spokesperson says preliminary information indicates that with the assistance of his daughter, the SIM card associated with the account was later swapped.

Okema says that when government funds amounting to five million shillings were disbursed to the beneficiary’s account on Tuesday last week, the suspects allegedly facilitated a PIN reset and subsequently accessed the funds through a financial institution in Kamdini.

He says the matter was reported to Police, leading to investigations and the subsequent arrest of the two suspects.

Okema says that efforts are underway to recover the stolen money.
