UWA asked to tag killer elephants

Geoffrey Okello, the Nwoya East Member of Parliament, has urged Uganda Wild Life Authority (UWA) to tag and monitor killer elephants from Murchison falls National Game Park in a bid to prevent further loss of lives.

Okello who was addressing journalists in his office on Saturday said that research shows that animals that have killed human beings before, will always kill again.

He says such animals should be tagged and monitored through UWA’s command center so that when they go to the communities, they are followed and driven back.

Okello explains that tagging killer elephants is not hard, since they always stay around the crime scene for about two days.

Statistics indicate that 18 people have been killed in the last four years by elephants that stray from Murchison Falls into communities in Nwoya district.
