539 Pupils in Dokolo District Barred from 2026 PLE Over Failed Pre-Registration Tests

539 Primary Seven candidates in Dokolo District will not be registered for the 2026 Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) after failing the district’s Pre-Registration Examinations.

The decision follows the release of results yesterday at the Dokolo District Council Main Hall, where education leaders and head teachers resolved that only candidates who demonstrated minimum competence would proceed to national examinations.

According to Isaac Okoth, Secretary of the Dokolo District Examination Board (DDEB), out of 3,440 candidates who sat the pre-registration exams, 539 scored Division U, automatically disqualifying them from PLE registration this year.

Over 2900 passed the exams and are therefore expected to register for the PLE.

Okoth explains that the affected pupils lack the foundational knowledge required to sit and pass PLE.

He explains that registering them would likely result in poor performance, further increasing failure rates in the district.

Education officials say the decision, though tough, is aims at protecting learners from premature exposure to national exams for which they are not adequately prepared.

However, it also means the affected candidates will have to repeat Primary Six, delaying their academic journey by at least a year.

This setback is expected to have wider implications on learners’ morale and retention.

Some pupils may become discouraged and lose interest in school altogether, while others risk dropping out due to stigma, financial pressure, or lack of parental support.
