Police in Pader District have arrested a representative of the Chief of Payira, Opira Kamusu, after he was allegedly found in possession of 50 pre-ticked ballot papers during voting yesterday.
Kamusu was reportedly arrested at Lamwo Wang Tangi Polling Station in Atanga Sub-County, Pader District, after election officials raised an alarm over the ballot papers, which were already marked in favour of his brother.
Francis Okot, the LC I Chairperson of Odani Village, Opati Parish in Atanga Sub-County, says the suspect is also a brother to Mark Patrick Ongola, the incumbent Chairperson of Atanga Sub-County.
Okot says that at around 9:00 am, when voting kits were delivered to Lapak Polling Station in Ngotoo Parish, the ten mandatory witnesses discovered that one of the ballot boxes had a broken seal.
He adds that at about 1:00 pm, the suspect left Lapak Polling Station and went to Wang Tangi Polling Station in Lawiyeadul Parish, where voters noticed a suspicious bulge on his stomach.
Upon inspection, they reportedly found 50 pre-ticked ballot papers hidden inside his shirt.
Police were called to the scene and arrested the suspect, who was later taken to Lacekocot Police Station.
Erick Gimei, the Pader District Returning Officer says he received information about an arrest at a polling station in Atanga Sub-County, but says he is yet to obtain full details from polling officials on the ground.
Attempts to get a comment from Jackson Bogere, the DPC of Pader, failed as he didn’t pick up his calls.
