UPDF Moves to Calm Tensions Over Amuru–Adjumani Land Wrangles

The Uganda Peoples’ Defence Forces (UPDF) has intensified community engagement efforts aimed at resolving the long-standing land dispute between residents of Amuru and Adjumani districts.

The dialogue, organised by the 501 Brigade under the 4th Infantry Division, was held in Itirikua Sub-County, Apaa-Aliwara Village, bringing together local leaders, security officials, and community representatives to address persistent tension linked to contested land boundaries.

Captain David Kamya, the 4th division Public Information says the meeting focused on de-escalating disputes that have, over time, led to loss of life, injuries, displacement of families, and destruction of property.

Officials note that the continued conflict has negatively affected social cohesion and slowed development in the affected areas of Northern Uganda.

Nathan Bainomugisha, the 501 Brigade Commander underscores the importance of peaceful coexistence between the communities, noting that stability and development depends on unity and shared responsibility.

Osborn Geoffrey Oceng, the RDC of Amuru and Tokyo Swaib, the RDC of Adjumani also attended the meeting. 

The meeting was also attended local leaders, security officials, and community representatives.

Joseph Mwesige, the Regional Police Commander for North West Nile warns against acts of violence, including illegal land occupation, intimidation, and destruction of property.
