Nwoya district Chairman, Honorable Patrick Okello Oryema has urged government to speed up the Process of putting Electric fence along the borders of Murchison falls National Park.
Oryema says that although some parts of the Park has been fenced, the remaining part that are not fenced has been a big Problem.
Oryema made the remarks on Monday while addressing Journalists from Gulu City, he says that the most affected sub-counties include, Purongo, Got-Apwoyo, Anaka and Lii Sub-Counties.
He adds that Elephants have destroyed crops from these sub-counties adding that this has exposed residents to lack of food and Malnutrition among Children.
He also calls on government to reduce on the cost of Water for Production so that people in Acholi sub-region can access irrigation facilities at a lower cost.
Stray elephants from Murchison Falls National Park frequently kill and injure residents in Nwoya District due to escalating human-wildlife conflicts.
Expanding human populations and a lack of complete protective barriers force these herd of animals out of protected areas into community farmland.
