The residents of Gul-okano in Keyi A, Bardege-Layibi, Gulu City have resorted to fetching water from swamps and other open unclean sources after two main water points in the area became faulty.
Lakot Joyce, a resident says the borehole at Bardege-Layibi Health Center III from which they used to fetch water for domestic purposes broke down two months ago and it has not yet been repaired.
She says even the spring well which offers an alternative water source is as well in a poor condition with a jerry can taking an hour to fill up.
Ocaya Johnson, the General Secretary to the area LC1 Chairperson of Keyi A says several complaints have been registered in his office and appeals to political leaders, donors and well-wishers for help.
Ocaya says a well-wisher repaired the piped water source at BAT and in the same way, he is urging other well-wishers to help repair the spoilt piped water sources for the people of Gul-okano.
Patrick Oola Lumumba, the Mayor for Bardege-Layibi division urges residents to install piped water from National Water and Sewage Cooperation noting that boreholes and wells are no longer acceptable within the City.
He says 10 million litres of water is supplied to Gulu City daily under the Karuma water Supply project commissioned in February last year which according to him is the only solution to the current water crisis.
