There has been a surge in motorcycle theft cases registered by members of the Gulu West boda-boda association within the past one week at their offices.
Ocen Emmy, the Chairperson Gulu West Boda-boda Association says 10 riders reported cases from different areas in Bardege-Layibi Division.
He notes that out of the 10 stolen motorcycles, only five have been recovered by the security in partnership with their office.
Ocen attributes the challenge to gun men whom he says have resumed operations within Gulu and Acholi sub region targeting new motorcycles.
He explains that some motorcycles were stolen through self-rides and burglary at houses in which the bikes had been parked in the night by alleged suspects.
Ocen cautions their members to prioritise personal security and remain vigilant as they do business.
Amir Kamba, the deputy Resident City Commissioner for Bardege-Layibi Division says several intelligence led operations have been conducted which led to the arrest of many suspects who are under police custody with some bikes recovered in the process as investigations continues.
Gulu West Boda-boda Association has 3,200 fully registered members.
They are set to hold a general election on Saturday at Bomah Grounds in Gulu City to elect new leaders on a five year term.
