Police in Lira East City Division are investigating the mob killing of a man suspected to have stolen a cow at Adaga Ayela Cell, Boke Ward.
The deceased identified as Awany Jasper alias John was allegedly arrested by the community on suspicion of stealing a cow belonging to one Akech Betty at 6:00pm on Sunday.
Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Region Police spokesperson says Awany was assaulted by a group of people at Adaga Ayela Trading Centre.
Okema says the same mob later took Awany to his home from where his condition deteriorated before relatives rushed him to Gift Life Health Centre from where he died on Monday.
He says the body was conveyed to Lira Regional Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem.
Okema adds that one suspect identified as Opio Geoffrey alias Okello Boda is currently in police custody to assist with investigations while efforts to identify and arrest other suspects are ongoing.
