Opio John Bosco, the Chief Administrative Officer of Amuru district, has urged government to extend health facilities in remote areas to enable people receive quality health care.
Opio notes that in Amuru district, the sub-county of Lakang lacks any government health center which forces many people to travel over 100 kilometers in order to access health services.
He adds that the whole of Kilak-South Constituency lacks a Health Center IV as required by government policy saying that government should set up two Health Center III’s and HC IV’s in Amuru district to help communities in hard to reach areas.
He says though some partners in health are supporting health facilities in remote areas of Amuru, the support is still inadequate.
Isaac Okello Wonyima, the acting DHO of Nwoya district says the Ministry of Health needs to extend services to districts in remote areas because they have many challenges including staffing gaps among others.
Dr. Atim Dansan, who represented the Director General Health services from the Ministry of Health says Government is working to close the gaps in staffing and other challenges facing the lower health facilities in the district.
They were speaking on Tuesday during the opening of the 6th edition of the Acholi Regional Health Assembly from Bomah Hotel in Gulu City.
