Acholi Chiefdom Agricultural Minister Calls Upon Youth To Embrace Hardwork

Retired Major David Livingston Amone, the Minister of Agriculture and Forestry at the Acholi Cultural Institution has urged youth to seriously consider hard work especially in the agricultural sector.

He says most youth in Acholi Sub Region attained an education yet remain unemployed because of the limited opportunities in the formal sector.

Amone urges the youth to embrace hard work in the agricultural sector in their villages unveiling the Chiefdom’s plan to enhance youth productivity through distribution of seedlings and sports.

He says there is plenty of fertile agricultural land yet most youth choose to hang around urban centers drinking alcohol, stealing and robbing which he faults for causing street children in Acholi Sub Region.

The Minister urges the youth to embrace the planting of perennial crops such as coffee, cocoa and fruit trees like avocado, oranges and bananas because they have more financial impact if well managed well in the long-term.

He explains that youth productivity can be enhanced through help from development partners like Kijani Forestry and Uganda Prisons Services who are supplying seedlings to the Acholi Cultural Institution free of charge and also at a subsidised cost.

In 2024, the council of chiefs resolved that David Onen Acana, the Acoli Paramount Chief visits of all the 56 chiefdoms under his jurisdiction which led to the discovery of unproductivity among the people especially the youth which the institution is embarking to address.
