Amuru District is currently battling with a resurgent outbreak of measles that has affected a number of sub-counties.
Dr. Alfred Okello, the Amuru District Health Officer says three sub-counties of Layima, Lakang and Apaa area have been heavily affected by the measles outbreak.
Okello notes that they have recorded over 140 cases of measles which are being treated at Otwee Health Center in Amuru District.
He adds that the District has put in place many activities to curb the spread of the diseases like community sensitization and outreach especially in hard to reach areas.
Okello further urges Parents to take their children for measles rubella vaccination in order to avoid measles infection.
Measles is a highly contagious viral infection which causes high fever, cough, a runny nose, red eyes, and a distinct blotchy rash that starts on the face and spreads downwards.
Caused by the rubeola virus, it spreads through respiratory droplets, remaining airborne for up to two hours.
There is no specific antiviral treatment, but the MMR vaccine is 97% effective for prevention.
