FARMERS CELEBRATE AS RAINS RETURN AFTER PROTEST OVER DROUGHT

The farmers of Okumcan village, Omel Sub County in Gulu district are very excited about the constant rains they are receiving after staging a demonstration over the lack of rain.

Vincent Ouma, the LC III Chairperson of Omel Sub County says the community two weeks ago staged a demonstration protesting the rate at which their village was dry yet their crops are in the garden and other areas were receiving rain.

Ouma says the community alleged that a group of charcoal burners were responsible for stopping the rains and consequently after staging the demonstration, rain has been constant.

Ouma warns that if it is true the charcoal burners had done so then they should stop with immediate effect.

Ouma says the community are so excited and working so hard, planting mainly maize, soya and sorghum.

According to Ouma if the rain continues, his people will reap big from their harvest which will create peace in households.
