First Modern Road Brings Hope to Olongot Village in Gulu District

Celebration mood was activated in Olongot village Patiko Sub County in Gulu district on Monday after the completion of a six kilometer road, the first of its kind in the village.

Patrick Komakech, the LC III chairperson for Patiko Sub County says Olongot is a village surrounded by rocks which has always been ignored when it comes to development.

Komakech says the sub county used seven million shillings for opening Olongot road which is six km long to save them from transportation problems which they have faced for a long time.

According to Komakech, the people of Olongot struggled to get health care, Schools and market for their goods for a long time yet they are the best maize, shea and soya beans in the whole of Patiko.

He says women giving birth while being helped by traditional birth attendants is a normal thing in Olongot village because the village lacked a proper road to transport a woman in Labor during rush hours.

Komakech says the people of Olongot now vow to increase their level of productivity since they now have a road and also avoid going to traditional birth attendants by prioritizing hospitals.
