Gulu Regional Referral Hospital has been forced to introduce toilet tissue in its toilet facilities due to poor hygiene at the hospital.
Speaking to favor Fm from his office, Uryek-Wun Walter, the hospital principal administrator says that people are using stones, leaves, papers, pampers and leaves for wiping themselves, others use their own hands and then clean it on the walls of the toilet.
Uryek-Wun says they have now resolved to put toilet tissue to support their patients so that the sanitation is maintained because that area is very sensitive.
According to Uryek-Wun, the hospital is dealing with different mentalities from different backgrounds.
Urye-Wun says that with the introduction of free toilet papers, they believe that the patients will cooperate with the hospital by doing the right thing.
He adds that this is a mentality and mindset they have dealt with for a long time but regardless, they will not stop sensitizing the patients on proper toilet use.
Proper toilet use in Uganda follows standard global hygiene practices but incorporates local infrastructure, whether using a modern flush toilet or a traditional pit latrine, the essentials include aiming correctly, proper disposal of cleansing materials, and aggressive handwashing with soap to prevent the spread of diseases
