Gulu City Council has moved to strengthen leadership and restore order at Gulu Main Market following recent misunderstandings among traders.
In a meeting convened by City Town Clerk Innocent Ahimbisibwe today, market leaders were reminded that under the Markets Act 2023, the Town Clerk administers the market through a Market Administrator, while the association plays a supportive role.
Ahimbisibwe urges vendors to respect the law, saying the market belongs to everyone pledging support to rebuild the Market Association and improve service delivery.
Representing the Mayor, Patrick Ojok Angenna Secretary for Production, Works and Technical Services, called for unity and reconciliation to boost business at the City’s busiest market.
He urges the vendors to put aside past differences and embrace reconciliation for the continued growth of the market.
The engagement is part of Gulu City Council’s broader efforts to improve governance, strengthen institutions and create a conducive environment for trade and investment.
