Gulu City Re-Stocking Program Reaches Milestone as 200 Beneficiaries Cleared for Payout

Over 200 beneficiaries for the re-stocking program have already been verified for payment in Gulu City according to Peter Banya, the Deputy Resident City Commissioner for Gulu City.

Cattle restocking in Uganda is a government initiative aimed at compensating households in the Acholi, Lango, and Teso sub-regions that lost their livestock to past insurgencies and cattle rustling.

The programme provides verified vulnerable households with UGX 5 million to purchase five cattle (three heifers and two bulls) to restore their livelihoods.

Banya says the number of beneficiaries of Gulu City are 672 though they are still continuing the verification process which they believe will be done soon and the money will be channeled to beneficiaries soon.

According to Banya, Gulu City already has 3.36 billion shillings in the bank waiting to be disbursed to the different beneficiaries at the right time.

Banya stresses that the money should be used for buying the cattle and not diverting it to something else.
