Gulu City Warns Head Teachers Over Illegal Boarding Schools

Richard Irwenyo, the Education Officer for Gulu City says head teachers whose schools are still operating illegal boarding schools are going to be held responsible.

Irwenyo says he wrote to all schools in May after receiving a letter from the Ministry of education and sports, issuing a strong warning to those operating illegal boarding schools to stop immediately.

According to Irwenyo, the head teachers will now carry the cross by being held responsible if their schools are still operating boarding schools illegally.

He says there are several illegal boarding schools within the City because private schools are being opened daily by different individuals.

Currently, there are 41 government schools and 76 private schools within Gulu City.

Operating a boarding school in Uganda requires strict compliance with the Ministry of Education and Sports.

You must obtain a valid registration certificate, written permission, and adhere to safety, sanitation, staffing, and documentation standards outlined in the Basic Requirements and Minimum Standards (BRMS).
