Huge Ammunition Cache Recovered in Lamwo District

Police in Lamwo district recovered 4,900 rounds of live ammunition concealed in a garden at Otong Lawatpura Village in PalabekKal Sub-county on Sunday.

Reagan Magombe, the Lamwo District Police Commander says that the ammunition was recovered in a garden belonging to 67 year old Mathew Okot, a resident of the area, following information from members of the community.

Magombe says that the ammunition is believed to have been concealed by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) during the insurgency in Northern Uganda.

He said that despite having been concealed for an extended period of time, the recovered ammunition remained live and serviceable.

Magombe says that the ammunition has since been safely secured and placed under Police custody pending technical examination and disposal in accordance with the established procedures.

The DPC commended the community for their vigilance and timely sharing of information, noting that community cooperation remains critical in preventing crime and removing dangerous items from public circulation.
