Kitgum Chief Magistrate Robert Ekirita has today granted Shs 2 million cash bail to musician-turned-politician Bosmic Joyce Otim, who is facing charges of grievous bodily harm.
Otim, who was remanded on July 13, 2026 after failing to provide a Local Council I introductory letter, was released after presenting five sureties.
The case stems from an alleged assault on social media blogger Alfred Okello Joe, popularly known as KD Kristo Hammer.
Appearing before the Kitgum Chief Magistrate’s Court, Otim was charged with grievous bodily harm contrary to Section 202 of the Penal Code Act.
The offence carries a maximum sentence of 7 years imprisonment upon conviction.
Prosecution alleges that on May 3, 2026, at Corner Mission in Kitgum Municipality, Otim unlawfully caused grievous harm to Okello.
Otim is represented by Robert Okot of Openy, Awino, Afwono and Company Advocates.
In granting bail, the court bonded Otim on Shs 2 million cash and required five sureties, each bonded at Shs 10 million non-cash.
The sureties presented include: Hon. Gilbert Olanya, Member of Parliament for Kilak South, Amuru District, Benard Ocaya, LCI Chairperson of Langalanga Cell, Kitgum Municipality, Magrate Adong, Otim’s wife, Alex Ojera, musician popularly known as Murugut, and Felix Odida, Otim’s maternal uncle.
Chief Magistrate Ekirita cautioned the accused against making any comments on social media or other public platforms regarding the matter, and warns him not to interfere with prosecution witnesses.
Ekirita states that any attempt to obstruct justice would attract serious consequences.
The court adjourned the matter to August 4, 2026 for hearing. Otim was ordered to continue reporting to court on the scheduled date.
