Kitgum Municipal Council has not yet implemented recommendations by the Board of Survey to dispose off six vehicles and four motorcycles whose maintenance costs have become too high, despite the assets being flagged for disposal in the 2022/2023 and 2023/2024 financial years.
Patrick Paul Kidega, the Secretary for Finance, Planning and Administration who also serves as the Alango Ward Councillor says the unusable assets are distributed across all municipal institutions.
These include the four administrative units; Pager Division, Pandwong Division, Central Division, and Kitgum Municipal Council headquarters, as well as eight government-aided primary schools, one secondary school, two tertiary institutions, and a health facility.
Kidega says the assets recommended for disposal include six vehicles, among them five TATA lorries, one water bowser and four motorcycles.
Akuma Muzamil, the Kitgum Municipal Town Clerk says most of the assets have already been disposed off with the exception of three vehicles.
He explains that the three remaining vehicles were donations from the central government whose logbooks are still held held by the line ministries.
Muzamil says the municipality will engage the ministries to secure the documents.
If approved, this will bring the total number of motorcycles slated for disposal to 12, in addition to the six vehicles flagged since 2022.
