Councillors in Lamwo District have called for the timely payment of their allowances, saying delays in facilitation could affect the smooth functioning of local government activities and service delivery.
James Ochola, the former Lamwo District Speaker who is also the Nyimur Sub-county Councilor says Councilors play a critical role in representing communities, monitoring government programmes, and ensuring accountability in the use of public resources.
According to Ochola, delayed payments can discourage active participation in council business especially for leaders who travel long distances from remote areas to attend meetings at the district headquarters.
Doris Abalo, the District Speaker also emphasizes the importance of promptly settling legitimate council obligations, noting that Councilors are central to policy formulation, budget approval, and oversight of public expenditure.
Meanwhile, Moses Chuna Moses, the Chief Administrative Officer says approved financial obligations will be processed in line with government procedures. The concern was raised during discussions on outstanding payments owed to Councilors for council sittings, budget-related activities, committee meetings, and other official assignments conducted during the 2025/2026 financial year
