Lamwo District Local Government is in the process of drafting an ordinance that will control roaming livestock, a practice that is hindering tree planting and food production efforts in the district.
Sisto Oyet Ocen, the L.C V Chairperson Lamwo district says that UN agency UNICEF is supporting the district to come up with the ordinance.
Oyet explains that roaming livestock disrupt the growing of food crops like cassava and sweet potatoes near homesteads.
The chairperson says, that residents will be required to tether and zero graze their animals to avoid them roaming or pay fines.
This development comes at a time when Lamwo like most districts in Acholi sub region is facing hunger due to food scarcity caused by the prolonged dry spell.
Staple food crops like maize, sweet potatoes and beans were highly affected leaving several families in a food insecure position.
