National Water and Sewerage Corporation says it has registered unpaid water bills worth 1.5 billion shillings in Gulu District and City over the years.
The unpaid water bills are from both government institutions and private individuals, according to Ivan Tekakwo, the Public relations officer at National Water Gulu City.
He explains that some of the unpaid bills belong to customers who have since died.
Tekakwo adds that in some cases, even the water meter is no longer in sight.
Tekakwo says some of the debts are being assessed by head office to be written off as bad debts.
National Water currently has 13,000 customers in Gulu City and surrounding areas.
