Police have arrested 28-year old Kevin Lamaro, the woman whose photos went viral on social media for allegedly stealing a newborn baby from Gulu Regional Referral Hospital.
The baby was yesterday afternoon reunited with her mother, who is still recovering at thehospital from where she gave birth through caesariansection while the suspect is detained atGuluCentral Police Station.
Walter Uriekwun, the Principal Administrator at Gulu Regional referral hospital says CCTV footage shows that the mother of the baby handed over the infant to Lamaro after building rapport with her in order to take it for immunization.
He says the suspect took the baby for immunization before disappearing.
Uriekwun says that they received information at 10:00am yesterday that the suspect had been intercepted by the community in Laguti, Pader district and handed over to police.
He adds that the hospital will ensure that the suspect is prosecuted for child stealing, a crime that has not been registered at the facility for the last three years.
Uriekwun attributes the quick recovery of the baby to the cameras placed at the hospital and vigilance of the community.
