The School Management Committee and the Parents’ Teachers Association of Bungatira central primary school have survived losing their positions in the school after appearing before Peter Banya, the deputy Resident City Commissioner (RCC) for Laroo-Pece division.
This follows a petition from parents of the school to remove some of them from office.
Last week, the parents, teachers, leaders headed by Banya and the community gathered at the school because over 80 parents had signed for the removal of the School Management Committee chairman (SMC) from office and replaced by another person capable.
The parents alleged that Nyeko Atiko Walter, the chairman SMC hired private auditors with the school’s money thereby accusing head teacher falsely of corruption and causing her death.
The parents further alleged that Atiko had sidelined other SMC members and was working only four of them out of 13.
Banya notes that after thorough investigation and consultation, they decided to maintain the current leadership but correct them on where they were going wrong.
Banya says the meeting instructed the SMC and Parents Teachers Association (PTA) to develop a working budget because they were working without one, hold meetings as stipulated by the law, work together and fight the careless attitude among teachers of the school.
He further says that the two bodies promised that this year the performance of the school will definitely improve even if they don’t get a first grade.
