Rantzeet, an Indian owned farm reportedly growing lemon grass in Purongo sub county, Nwoya district has been accused of maltreatment of its farm workers.
This follows an incident where 21 youth were reportedly collected from Patiko Sub County in Gulu district and taken to the farm.
Patrick Komakech, the LC III Chairperson of Patiko Sub county says the youth who were taken to the farm on Saturday, demanded to know how much they would be paid and for the provision of protective gears but were instead abandoned and denied food.
Komakech says the youth were forced to abandon the farm and return home on foot because they lacked transport money with some arriving yesterday.
The chairperson condemns the farm owners’ action and calls for investigation.
Attempts to contact, Jacob Onen, the farm coordinator who is said to have mobilized and taken the youth to Nwoya district, were fruitless as he was unreachable on phone.
Meanwhile, Christopher Omara, the Nwoya Resident City Commissioner says he has not yet been informed about the incident.
Famous for its fertile soils, Nwoya District hosts over 40 commercial farms.
