
The 11th Hour Project, a Non-Government Organization based in California, USA has donated 30,000 US Dollars (111.5 million shillings)to Northern Uganda Media Club (NUMEC) as a general operating grant for running activities.
Alfred Oryem, the Project Manager of NUMEC made the revelation during the Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Friday from Bapa Hotel in Omoro district.
He says the funds will help in catering for salaries of their full-time staff, keeping the secretariat operational, paying electricity bills and welfare of their members among others.
According to Oryem part of the funding will be used for laying the foundation of NUMEC’s office building at the organisation’s permanent land in Laroo next to Jaca gardens.
Moses Lubangakene, the president of NUMEC says the organization is shifting from a club status to an NGO status highlighting regulatory compliance as paramount with the NUMEC lawyer at the helm of this transition.
He notes that media sustainability is key with the industry undergoing evolution as new media have emerged overshadowing traditional media with media influencers earning more advertising revenue than media houses.
