A 31-year old man has attempted to commit suicide in Loyoboo village, Unyama Sub county, Gulu district allegedly after cattle belonging to his uncle ate and destroyed his rice crop.
George Okot reportedly ingested a poisonous substance in anger following the damage to his crop at around 3:30 pm on Monday.
Peter Ochora confirmed the report and said Okot was found unconscious in the rice garden.
Reports say that Okot was rushed to Angaya Health center III where he was treated and later discharged in the evening.
Two decades of Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) left behind deep psychological scars, high rates of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), and socio-economic displacement that directly fuel high suicide rates in Northern Uganda.
The suicide cases are driven by historical war trauma and economic hardship.
