Amuru Closes Reception Centres for 21 Days Amid Ongoing Assessments

The reception centers have been closed for a period of 21 days and thereafter another decision will be made, according to Osborne Ochieng, the Resident District Commissioner for Amuru district.

Reception centers are safe, temporary facilities that provide immediate shelter, food, and essential services to vulnerable groups such as asylum seekers, refugees, or disaster evacuees while they await permanent housing or the processing of their applications.

Ochieng notes that they received communication from above directing them to close all reception centers and wait for further communication and guidelines.

He says the closure which comes at a time when the country is experiencing threats from the deadly Ebola disease was a wise decision because it will fight transmission of the virus.

Ochieng urges organizations who work around reception of refugees to hold on for now and focus on other things as they wait for communication.
