Local leaders in Gulu district have called on residents to massively participate in the upcoming local council I and II elections slated for July 28th.
It has been a custom over the years for local council one and two elections to attract a low voter turnout mainly due to voter apathy.
Justin Obol, the L.C V Chairperson Gulu district says the local council one office is a very important office that needs leaders with integrity and accordingly urges locals to avoid voting based on party lines and instead vote leaders who are capable and are exemplary.
Kenneth Okello Doggy, the Gulu district speaker says it’s important for residents to vote people with good reputations as they will be directly in charge of villages they live in.
Okello who belongs to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) says the party always grooms good leaders and asked voters not to hesitate to vote the right leaders.
He appeals to government to consider starting with L.CI and II elections in the future instead of always holding them at the tail end.
Justin Kidega, the L.CIII chairperson Unyama Sub County says that residents should vote disciplined leaders who will be available to support in issues of security, wealth creation and sanitation. Over the last five years, several Local Council One chairpersons in Acholi sub region have been arrested for connivance to steal especially livestock.
